Seion Baptist Church, Maerdy

| News and Information New pastor in Maerdy Date Added: 07 Jul, 2007 The Call of Hywel Wakefield to Seion, Maerdy We first met Hywel Wakefield in 2001 while he was studying theology through distance learning via the ETCW. He did his 3-week College Placement in Seion under the guidance of our pastor, the Rev. Graham John. When that was complete, he did the Sunday services for six weeks in the Summer holidays when Graham was away and returned occasionally after that to preach on a Sunday. Hywel is one of the many preachers who have ministered to us since our pastor left in August 2006. He has also led one of our house groups on a regular basis since January. We have been impressed with his preaching and teaching, his unassuming manner, his sense of humour and his ability to relate to young and old. Our interest in him as a possible future minister of Seion has arisen naturally out of this situation. During this last year the Rev. Peter Brake has acted as Seions moderator and has chaired our monthly deacons meetings and the annual Church Meeting. Here are some quotes from the minutes: April 18th 2007 P.B. to ask H.W. if he is interested in full time Christian ministry a tentative enquiry Church would need to agree to any further approach. April 21st 2007 H.W. has confirmed that he is interested Deacons recommend that we pursue this further... Church accepted the recommendation. June 6th 2007 Deacons met with H.W. June 11th 2007 - Church Meeting. Members were asked before the meeting to be prepared to give their reasons why they thought we should continue or not continue to pursue our interest in H.W. All comments were positive. It was proposed, seconded and unanimously decided to call Hywel Wakefield to minister at Seion, Maerdy. About 9pm Peter Brake rang Hywel to tell him that Seion would like him as their new minister. Hywel accepted the call. Church Members are excited at the prospect of a new minister, the deacons are rather bemused at the speedy course of events but we are all convinced that this is of the Lord. Hywels ordination and induction is being arranged
for Sat. 29th September 2007 at 3pm in Seion, Maerdy. Rev Peter Milsom
will perform the ordination with Rev Peter Brake & the former pastor
Rev Graham John will preach. |
| We are an evangelical Baptist church situated
at the top end of the Rhondda Fach valley. The church was erected in 1882,
as a Welsh-speaking church, but in more recent years has used the English language. We seek, in God's strength to preach, teach & live out the Gospel of God's Grace in Jesus Christ. We are a Bible based church. In all our preaching & teaching we look to the Bible as God's Holy & authoritative Word - the last word on the subject. We are not a large number, but have a great God & have seen how He is able to transform lives by His power & grace. - MORE The church is a member of the Associating Evangelical Churches of Wales. |
